Frequently Asked Questions
What are school hours?
Students should be in the building by 8:45 A.M. instruction begins at 9:00 A.M. From 8:45 - 9:00 students prepare for the day by writing in the Agenda, submitting homework, sharpening pencils, etc. Our writer's workshop starts promptly at 9:00. Students who are late are losing on out on lessons and disrupt the learning of the other students in the room. Bus students are dismissed at 2:50. Students are dismissed at 3:00.
What should I do if my child is absent?
Please call school, 233-6823, to let us know. Send in a note with your child when he/she returns. I will have a folder of all the work that your child missed. If your child will be out for an extended period of time, call school to make arrangements for work to be picked up or sent home with a friend/neighbor.
What should I do if my child needs medication during school?
All medication must be brought in to the nurse in a prescription bottle with a note from the doctor. No student can take medication without going to the nurse. This includes cough drops.
When is lunch?
Lunch is from 12:50-1:20. Lunch is $1.25 per student. Free and reduced lunch is offered to students who qualify. Families need to complete applications. Call the office or let me know if you need the forms.
Do you have snack?
We will NOT be having snack at school. Please be sure that your child has a good, healthy breakfast every morning. I do encourage students to bring in water bottles with ONLY WATER to drink. I prefer the snap top (push up to open & down to close) bottles, as they don't spill as much.
Do 3rd graders use Agendas?
Of course!!! First thing each morning, students will write the assignments in the Agenda. I will OK every morning and I have parents sign each night. This is a great place for you to communicate with me.
Can I send in treats for my child's birthday?
Yes!!! Treats are always welcome. Please give me a day or two notice, because I like to make sure that there is time to have the party! The district has adopted a policy that all baked goods must be commercially prepared. No homemade treats may be brought in to school. Also sometimes students have food allergies and I need to be sure that the food sent in is OK for everyone.
